There are people who do not like apples of winter varieties. We are sure they will change their minds about this after tasting the Ambrosia apples. There is no surprise about it’s name, because the legendary food of the Olimpic gods was called Ambrosia.
Translated from ancient Greek, the word “ambrosia” means “immortality”. And there is some truth about it: apple trees of this species are quite strong, frost- and drought-resistant, and easily overcome pests and diseases.
The history of this variety is quite interesting. It was bred in the 1980s in western Canada and turned out the result of an accidental selection. This event took place on the farm of the Mennell family in Summerland (British Columbia). The first tree was grown by the owners of the garden. Delicious and Jonagold apples were probably the basis of Ambrosia. Nowadays, in addition to British Columbia, the variety is cultivated in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
In America, it is among the top 10 popular apple varieties. Ambrosia may be planted in the south of Ukraine. The harvesting takes place in the first decade of October.

The content of organic acids in ripe fruits is small, so the consumption of these apples does not cause pyrosis and digestive problems.
The Ambrosia apples are characterized by good transportability and can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time, up to eight months. The weight of one apple is 210-240 g. The variety is characterized by high productivity, allowing fruit to be removed twice per season. Juicy apples are perfect for eating, as well as baking, main dishes and fruit salads. Eating these apples during long winter evenings, you will fondly remember the carefreeness of sunny summer days.
